Senior Scientist I - Biologics Training USP’s mission



This is a hands-on non-supervisory position in USP-India’s Biologics Laboratory with primary responsibility to deliver trainings on analytical methods for Biologics. In this position, the scientist will deliver trainings (about 50% - 60% of time) and execute lab projects in physicochemical and bioassay methods (about 40% – 50% of time) relevant to USP general chapters and monographs. This role would require delivering trainings both onsite and at customer locations. The Scientist will also actively engage in USP Education programs and is expected to have sound technical knowledge in analysis of biologics.

 Roles and Responsibilities

Aligns with USP’s mission, goals and objectives. and complies with USP’s guidelines and other requirements

Delivers trainings on analytical procedures relevant to biologics (advanced and sophisticated techniques include and are not limited to Liquid chromatography, Capillary electrophoresis, in vitro bioassays and immunoassays etc. for various biologics product class such as Recombinant Proteins and Monoclonal Antibodies

Conceptualizes and develops training content for new courses

Independently executes testing/analysis and records experimental data ensuring clear and accurate transcription of results and calculations for projects on collaborative testing of reference standards and characterization of biological products, method development and validation and contributing towards various project types of USP-NF.

Demonstrates compliance to USP’s QMS systems and best practices.

Reviews, and evaluates scientific literature in areas of biotherapeutics and is up-to date with new advancements in techniques and demonstrates strong skills and expertise in laboratory methods and troubleshooting.

Keeps open mind and takes inputs from peers, stakeholders and customers to deliver projects of high quality on time and to deliver successful hands-on trainings

Formulates technical presentations and participates in scientific discussion meetings.

Coordinates with cross functional team members across global sites and within USP India.
Demonstrates strong desire towards continuous learnings

Addresses customer queries from trainings

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills

Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or any other related stream with 2-3 years of industry experience or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or any other related stream with 8-10 years of industry experience in physico-chemical analytical procedures and bioassay. Experience in delivering scientific training is desirable. Well versed in handling specialized sophisticated instruments such as HPLC, Electrophoresis, Spectrophotometer, Flow Cytometer etc. is desirable. Sound knowledge and practical experience with Biotherapeutic products is required. Excellent communication, presentation and interactive skills are a must.

Required Experience

Ph.D. Biotechnology, Biochemistry or any other related stream with 2-3 years of industry experience with understanding of cGLP and qualification/validation of physico-chemical and bioassay methods is highly desirable. Facilitator/Instructor experience in delivering scientific trainings is desirable. Should demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems. Excellent communication, presentation and interactive skills are a must.  Additionally, should demonstrate good collaboration skills.
