Summary of Primary Role:
This role will provide coaching and execution support for functions within Syngene (Biopharmaceuticals) on subjects related to Operational Excellence, Lean leadership and management systems. The incumbent will gain a firm understanding of the operational needs of the leadership / functional team, oversight of processes, methodologies to help the leadership / functional team identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement using Operational Excellence principles. Using robust change management skills, the incumbent will implement changes across the organization and at all levels by ensuring stakeholders are aligned and supportive of changes.
Responsibilities
20% - Lead Functional continuous improvement program
Work closely with Functional Managers in developing, coaching and executing Continuous Improvement Master Plan, providing business partner support, project execution, program management and training.
15% - Deploy Continuous Improvement Master Plan
Lead the Functional Continuous Improvement Master Plan to implement the Lean Management System throughout Syngene. Standardize approach for and application of Lean/Six Sigma tools, and methods. Ensure OE standards (e.g. DMAIC, Lean, Root Cause Analysis) are being used for problem solving (tools and techniques) and continuous improvement. Champion the use of KPI / metric management for data-based decision making. Identify and support individuals with interest in OE leading to development/certification of future White/Green/Black Belts. Train / coach candidates on Lean and Six Sigma methods, support in project completion and certification.
15% - Business Partner in facilitating Change
Provide primary support to functional leaders at Syngene by identifying, prioritizing and chartering of improvement opportunities. Act as a change agent to instill a continuous improvement culture throughout the organization. Facilitate leaders in adopting standard work, Lean Six Sigma principle based decision making and continuous improvement mindset.
50% - Lead Improvement Projects / Events
Lead in designing, implementing improvement opportunities and events for highly complex processes that have high cross-functional impact. Eliminate waste, reduce cycle time and improve business performance by establishing a sustainable model for continuous improvement. Lead value stream mapping initiatives and improve the overall system performance by streamlining the information and material flow. Facilitate and carry out strategic projects through kaizen events in line with Syngene’s strategic deployment plan. Implementation, maintenance and improvement of 5S principles in the laboratories.
  • Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred) or life sciences
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certified
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Lean/Six Sigma role preferably in Bio/Pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life science industry.
  • Experience of working with functional leaders / teams to identify projects that require Operational Excellence intervention.
  • A proven record of accomplishments in continuous improvement events/projects, problem-solving, demonstrated success initiating change and influencing up to mid-level.
  • Experience in applying systematic and rigorous analytical methods to improve processes, including the following: Value stream mapping, Control plans, Mistake proofing, Root cause analysis and corrective action implementation, Kaizen, 5S
  • Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
  • Excellent facilitation and coordination skills
  • Ability to understand the requirement quickly & work on MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and present data in logical manner
  • Knowledge of some of the data analysis software will be an added advantage
  •  Good oral and written communication skills, influencing skills and persuading skills
  • Ability to quickly develop working relationship with functions and maintain the same
  • Fair conflict management skills
  • Flexibility and ability to assimilate new knowledge and standards quickly
  • Drive for results by demonstrating sense of urgency
