Associate
Engineer @AMGEN Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences or Business
This role will be responsible for supporting
the Therapeutic Discovery organization and our key internal clients in Process
Improvement efforts. A successful candidate will support high priority process
improvement initiatives, work with process owners to identify areas for
automation, standardized work, error proofing and process optimization. In
addition, this role will partner with third parties supporting lab operations
to optimize service delivery improving business results as well as other tasks
and duties as identified.
Reporting to the Lab Process Excellence
(LPE) Lead the successful candidate will:
Use Continuous Improvement tools to analyze
data to identify improvement opportunities and recommend solutions with minimal
direction
Capture process data through multiple means
including staff interviews, data base mining and manual collection
Collaborate with project teams to establish
performance measurement capabilities such as cycle and lead time, labor
intensiveness, work product quality (right the first time), and process
variability
Support the development of capacity
utilization models for key functions to identify business opportunities to
address and eliminate bottlenecks
Assist staff and key stakeholders in the
execution of project process improvements to enable sustainable business
performance
Apply project management skills to
coordinate efficient and effective meetings driving decisions, actions, and
staff accountability
Perform industry research to keep current on
relevant improvement methodologies utilized within process improvement, human
performance, and organizational effectiveness.
Basic Qualifications
Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences or
Business
Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM),
Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement methodology experience or
understanding of concepts
Understanding of Pharmaceutical and/or
Biotechnology industries
Project management experience, understanding
and awareness
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and
partner in a complex, matrix environment
Strong use of excel, PowerPoint, Visio,
Spotfire and other Microsoft Office programs.
Competencies
Strong time management skills, ability to
prioritize tasks, and develop communications to inform management of in
progress and planned work
Strong analytical skills to assess
performance, identify process improvement opportunities with minimal direction
Ability to develop tools to support process
improvements, prioritize work and develop a business case for required
resources to drive improvements
Excellent communication skills, both oral,
written
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to
forge consensus among competing client interests while ensuring objectives are
met
Ability to apply technical problem-solving
skills and business acumen
Familiarity with and desire to learn about
research lab operations
Ability to collect, assemble and interpret
data/information to enable relevant business analyses and influence
decision-making
Ability to define a problem, develop a
project scope and actionable objectives with measurable target to drive process
improvements.
